Today we are going to talk about a topic that we all face in our daily
lives: temptations. Temptations are those situations, thoughts or
desires that keep us from doing the right thing. However, in the
Scriptures we find valuable advice on how to face and resist them.
Let’s start with a quote from Proverbs 4:23, which says: “Keep your
heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.” This
verse helps us see the importance of taking care of our thoughts and
emotions, since they are the starting point of our actions. If we let
negative or tempting thoughts enter our hearts, it will be more
difficult to resist temptation.
Now, let’s turn to the words of Yeshua, where we find the account of the
temptation of Messiah in the wilderness, as told in Matthew 4:1-11.
After forty days of fasting, Satan tries to tempt Yeshua by offering him
power, fame and riches. However, Yeshua responds by quoting Scripture
and demonstrating the authority of God. This passage teaches us that the
Word of God is our best defense against temptations. By knowing and
applying the teachings of the Bible, we can strengthen ourselves and
resist the temptations we face.
In 1 Corinthians 10:13 we read: “No temptation has taken you except what
is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted
above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way
of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” This promise assures us
that God will always give us the strength to resist temptations, and He
will never let us face something that is beyond our capabilities.
How can we apply these principles in our daily lives? First, we must be
vigilant and aware of the temptations around us. Second, we must fill
our minds with the Word of God, so that we can resist the lies and
deceptions of the enemy. And finally, we must trust in the power of the
Creator to strengthen us and help us overcome any temptation we face.
Facing temptations is not easy, but with God’s help and the power of His
Word, we can resist and emerge victorious. Let us always remember the
words of James 4:7: “Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and
he will flee from you.” May these words guide and strengthen us in our
fight against temptations.
