What is the Father’s Word?
When we speak of God’s Word, we are either referring to:
1. the written Scriptures that the Father has revealed for His people “for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16, ASV),
2. or to the Son of God sent down from the Creator, who “was in the beginning with God” (John 1:2), “the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man” (John 1:9).
We know that “every good and perfect gift comes down from above, from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, not even a shadow of variation.” (James 1:17, Peshitta) Both the Scriptures and Yeshua Mshikha were sent to us, and both are referred to as the Bread of Life or Bread of Heaven (read John 6:32, 48, 51). We feed on both the Scriptures and the Son of God as our heavenly manna.
God’s Word is true and enduring, while man’s word is subject to falsehood and failure. When the servants of the Father teach the Word of God, it is not their own, but from the hand of Yahweh. For this we are thankful. “For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.” (1 Thessalonians 2:13, NASB)
How do we increase our knowledge of His Word?
There are various methods in which we can increase our knowledge of the Word of God. Some of these are by reading, studying, and searching out the Scriptures. As a continues to study and becomes more familiar with the Scriptures, they are more apt to applying them in their day to day lives. In this same manner, a person is able to realize the presence of Yeshua with them.
The Psalmist wrote: “I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.” (Psalm 119:15, ESV)
Speaking to the religious leaders of his time, Yeshua said: “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me.” (John 5:39, NASB) Indeed, the Scriptures testify of our Lord even before his coming to earth, and the Scriptures instruct us in a way of life that can lead to eternal life with Yeshua, but we must be serious in our study and application of the Word. We read: “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15, NASB) If we merely quoted the Scriptures without a proper knowledge of their meaning and without living a life guided by the Father’s Word, we would surely not be approved by God as one of His true servants.
Our commitment to the diligent study of the Scriptures and the teachings of Yeshua Mshikha, must be genuine. In other words, instead of being some form of token service, the Word of God must be part of our way of life. “The person who continues to study God’s perfect teachings that make people free and who remains committed to them will be blessed. People like that don’t merely listen and forget; they actually do what God’s teachings say.” (James 1:25, GWT)
Yahweh’s Words are promises
The world is full of preachers who spew forth false prophecies and politicians who make campaign promises — all of which soon fail, time and again. We are told in the Scriptures that we should “not trust in princes, in mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.” (Psalm 146:3, NASB) It is because of such failed words of these types of people that much of humanity has lost hope in a better future, a future that we know is filled with brightness, glory and perfection — a future that is promised by our Father in heaven. Instead of gaining accurate knowledge of the Word of God and putting their trust in the Father, those who are walking in spiritual darkness have put their trust in human religions and human governments. But this is not so for us, brothers and sisters. Instead our trust is completely in our Heavenly Father and in His Son Yeshua – are who are true, and whose Word can relied upon.
When our Father sends out His word to be demonstrated in the earth or anywhere in the universe, it is always accomplished. His plans never fail. “So shall My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11, NASB)
In the Scriptures we read of Abraham’s example of faithfulness to God and His promises. Even though Abraham underwent trials and hardship at times, he never abandoned his faith in the Creator who had made His promise to him. We read, “No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God.” (Romans 4:20, ESV)
Each of us have been called by the Father, and each of us, nurtured by the Bread of Heaven, become sons and daughters of the Heavenly King. “By [the Father’s] own will he fathered us by the word of truth so that we might be the first-fruits of his creatures.” (James 1:18, Peshitta)
As we continue our journey with our heavenly father, walking in justice, mercy and humility (Micah 6:8), let us be like Abraham, who did not lose faith in the Creator’s enduring Word and in His promises. May each of us continually feed on the holy bread from God’s own altar, as we walk in faith and hope, with God’s promises before us each day.
A Prayer
Heavenly Father, may You rain down manna upon us, through Your Word in the Scriptures and in the presence of Your own Son Yeshua.
We thank You for this food from heaven, which nourishes our souls, and uplifts our spirit, giving us confidence and faith in Your promises.
Help us, Father, to increase our faith in all that You have promised to us, and help strengthen us when we are weak. Give us Your Spirit to instruct us on the path of our journey, and continue to feed us the heavenly manna from Your throne, continually providing us with water to quench our thirst.
In Yeshua’s name, Amen.
